Spending Time with Our Children

In chapter 6 of Crucial Elements of God’s Economy, someone asks Brother Witness Lee the following question:

“How should I regulate my children concerning watching television and movies?”

Brother Witness Lee’s answer is most helpful for those of us parents who struggle with this common issue.

He begins by acknowledging that “because of the current of the age, it is very difficult for parents to forbid their children to watch television and movies.” He then admonishes parents to restrict what children are allowed to watch and to explain to them, according to their age, the reasons for the restriction. Brother Witness Lee then encourages parents to spend time with their children. He writes:

To raise children is not easy or simple. It requires that we spend much time with our children. The more time we spend with our children, the better. We should spend at least two hours every evening doing nothing but being with our children, talking to them, or teaching them something. This will make them happy and give them some training. If we do not spend time with our children, we should expect that they will have problems. Although we cannot always afford to spend that much time with our children, the principle is that we need to spend as much time as possible with our children and give them the proper education according to their age.

We invite parents to use the comments section below to respond to Brother Lee’s admonition with questions, comments, or testimonies.

  1. Thank you for posting this portion. The Lord has been speaking this to me lately but I have been selfishly resisting Him. May the Lord recover my time to be properly spent in the way He is leading.

  5. Thank you Lord for this word. It is a struggle to give up your career to spend time for your children in this age so that you could inoculate them from the world. Thank you for shining on us that our children are so precious, more precious than our career. Bless our children with Your grace and presence. Amen
