The general subject is “The Revelation of Christ in God’s Economy as Presented in Psalm 2.” God’s economy (Eph. 1:10; 3:9; 1 Tim. 1:4) is God’s plan to carry out His purpose (Eph. 3:11) to have an enlarged expression of Himself as the church, the Body of Christ (1:22-23). Accordingly, Christ, who was anointed by God in eternity (Dan. 9:26; John 1:41), came in His incarnation to accomplish God’s eternal plan (Psa. 2:2; Luke 2:11; Eph. 1:9-10). After 30 years He was anointed again in time at His baptism for His earthly ministry (Matt. 3:16-17; Luke 4:18-19; Heb. 1:9; Acts 10:38). He was crucified, and in resurrection became the life-giving Spirit (1 Cor. 15:45b). Finally, in His ascension Christ was made both Lord and Christ (Acts 2:36), becoming God’s Anointed in an official way to carry out His heavenly ministry. At His second coming Christ as God’s Anointed will inherit the nations and will possess the earth (Psa. 2:8; Matt. 6:10; Rev. 11:15).
In this age and related to our experience, God is carrying out His economy within us to gain His corporate expression. His work within us is to dispense Christ as the Spirit into His believers that He would be one with them (Eph. 3:16-21; 1 Cor. 6:17). As the Spirit, Christ who is God’s Anointed (Psa. 2:2) is the anointing in our human spirit, moving in us all the time to carry out God’s economy (1 John 2:20, 27). In this way, God desires to dispense Himself into His chosen people to be their life and everything so that they may be one entity with Him on the earth to be the Body of Christ, the church, for His expression, which is the goal of God’s economy. Similarly, Christ as God’s installed King is in us (1:19-22; 2:6) and is expanding His kingdom within us (Mark 4:26-29; Eph. 3:17-19).
In addition, in Psalm 2 Christ is revealed as the center of God’s economy in the context of the world situation in a way that is strikingly applicable to us today. It begins by describing the rulers of the nations as being in rebellion against God’s Anointed (v. 2) and declaring independence from Him (v. 3). Then in contrast, Christ is revealed as God’s Anointed (v. 2), and then God declares Him as King (v. 6) and heir of all the nations (v. 8). Furthermore, the resurrection of Christ is revealed (v. 7; Acts 13:33) through which all the believers were born with Him, the Firstborn, as the many sons of God (John 20:17; 1 Pet. 1:3; Rom. 8:29; Heb. 2:10). The situation which we see in the world today is that so many governments are ungodly and in rebellion against God. However, we need to see that Christ has been exalted by God to be King to inherit the nations, and whose kingdom will cover the entire earth – it will be everywhere and include everyone. Moreover, we should be those who believe into Christ and love Him (Psa. 2:12), and submit to His rule today. We should experience Him as the King expanding His kingdom within us until He fills our whole being with Himself, and pray for Him to come with His kingdom to inherit the nations and possess the earth (Matt. 6:10; Rev. 11:15).
